I currently use PocketFMS to download the EFIS Dataset for my Advanced Flight Systems Panels.

I presume PocketFMS will be deprecated once EasyVFR 4 is launched.

Are you planning to allow a simple download of the EFIS Dataset at some point soon ?

Many thanks

Nigel

Hi Nigel,

Thank you for asking and welcome to the forum!

Actually, we could prepare a future EasyVFR 4 version to be able to replace the current PocketFMS desktop method for the Advanced Flight Systems EFIS.

But that's something for a far, very far distant future because we first need the program to be mature and have so many other whiches. On top of that, we have for some time now a better method for the Dynon SkyView panels. Since AFS works close with Dynon on firmware development we frequently have asked them to prepare their panels for the data structure we have created for Dynon Avionics and other manufactures. AFS has promised to work on that for some time now.

So we still "hope" that they will come around. It might be interesting if you, as a customer, contacts Advanced Flight Systems and asks what the status is on supporting the PocketFMS AeroData systematic as used by Dynon Avionics.

Cheers,
Tim

Hi Nigel,

What AFS EFIS do you have?

Ok  - I did a search on the AFS forum and found you. I see you have the original OS 1 processor in your AF-5600.

I had an answer from Shawn McGinnis last week regarding updating aero data. They have someone rewriting their vector based map engine since last November. Shawn hopes it will be ready and be launched in their Vx17 system software next year.

This I guess will only run on OS 5 so I’m not sure if they will be porting those changes to the OS 1. Maybe you should ask Shawn. The rewriting of the vector based map engine is apparently the last piece of the puzzle to make the AFS equipment completely compatible with what runs on Dynon.

AFS is about 75% done with having visual approach and airport plates running on their equipment and should be done with Vx16.9 or sooner (Vx16.7 is the latest OS5) update.

Have you considered upgrading your AF-5600 to OS 5? It’s pretty awesome as you can download all the VFR sectional raster charts from PocketFMS/EasyVFR4 as well as their own EasyVFR4 European raster chart. I have on mine and it works like a charm.

Hi Roger

Thanks for the comprehensive reply and I did indeed consider upgrading to a OS 5 version however I have the AFS 5600EE which has an internal Engine Board and AHRS which is not an option for the OS 5 panel. I would therefore need to buy and install a remote ADAHRS which is quite an upgrade unfortunately.

I will ask Shawn on the forum but I know the answer will be vx17 will only run on OS 5.

Will PocketFMS continue to be available and my only option if this is the case ?

Kind regards

Nigel

As far as I know, AFS put a lot of value on customer support so I’m sure they’ll ask PocketFMS to keep the pc desktop app running for the benefit of customers with older products.

I traded in my old AF-4500 and AF-3500 screens and got a reasonable discount on a complete new panel with their Advanced Control Module with ECB’s -pretty neat set up and it comes with all the harnesses so it’s all plug n play. I have an RV-7 (yet to be completed) and Van’s has a pretty neat little tray ADAHRS treys for a small dollar amount that pops onto the bulkhead behind the baggage compartment and it’s an easy install even after the build.

Cheers

Roger

Nigel, just a short “don’t tell anybody yet”, but we are trying to get the old pocketfms based dataexport for AFS moved to EasyVFR4 for Windows somewhere this winter. Then datasupply for the older AFS systems will be arround for quite some time still. I can’t make hard promises because devil is always in the details and a lot of other topics are on our todo list, but we sure will try to get it done.
