With EV3.x it is easy to see, if the GPS has a fix and the GDL90 connection is established. There is a simple indication on the top of the screen.

How can I check the fix and the connection, especially if I want to use the internal GPS of the tablet and the GDL90 (in my case with Stratux) just for traffic indication?

Hi Christian,

I used your question to create a FAQ article, since I expect a lot of users are interested in the solution. Please see https://support.easyvfr4.aero/help/how-can-i-check-the-fix-and-the-connection-especially-if-i-want-to-use-the-internal-gps-of-the-tablet-and-the-gdl90-skyecho2-stratux-flarm-just-for-traffic-indication and feel free to add any comments you have 🙂

Thanks a lot, that really helped.

But one more question please: You wrote "If the last traffic update is received more then 10 seconds ago the InfoField is coloured red.", so the InfoField would turn red if there *is no* traffic in the vicinity for more than 10 seconds, even if the GDL90-device is OK? If I filter myself on the device, I might really be lonely and would see red.

With GDL90 the only way EV4 can tell if the traffic feed is still functioning is when every now and then EV4 receives traffic data. So in your case I would for example leave the altitude filter to EasyVFR4 and not to the GDL90 device.

With my configuration iPad (no internal GPS) + external GPS ( Garmin GLO 2) applying EV4 I have a problem that when the  connection fails there is no warning in the flight display. I tested by adding a field "GPS Quality" in the "layout info fields" menu with following results:

- GPS Quality is only visible in Flight Mode. I would like to check in "ground" mode, to avoid a change to flight mode first. When ipad and GPS are blue tooth connected and a GPS signal is received, it shows "GPS 3D".

-  When switching off the Garmin GPS , it still keeps indicating "GPS 3D". No other warning in the display.

- When blocking reception of a GPS signal GPS quality goes to "GPS 2D"

In all situations Wifi was switched off .

The problem is not so much the loss of signal but the fact that there is no indication when the connection between iPAD and GPS is broken for whatever reason. I want to have an indication in the display if there is a GPS fix or not.

When I restart EV4 it works again correctly.

My external GPS setting is "Automatic" and "Internal GPS" is highlighted.

In EV3 the indication "No GPS FIX/ GPSFIX" . works correctly on presence or absence of GPS signal in any situation. So I think there is no hardware problem.

Is it possible to implemnt this in the same way in EV4 as well?
