Device: MacBook pro 15", mid 2015, Catalina. Same behaviour was with High Sierra. EV: today's version, same behaviour was with the two versions before.

When EV4 opens I have to adjust the (smaller) app window to the screen size manually. Neither in app window nor in full screen size the five resp. six menu buttons appear at the bottom. If I minimize the window vertically from bottom direction top (using the double arrow) the buttons will pop up when window's lower edge reaches about the middle of the screen (showing sort of a "16:5" format).

Must be something wrong with my display settings, I guess. Any idea out there?

Blue skies

Jordi

Hi Jordi,

We've had two more reports about this symptom, and I just can't replicate the problem on my MacBook Pro mid 2013 running Catalina 10.15.3, what makes it tough to debug. Now we've had more problems in the past with MacBooks using a dual graphics card, often these where "suddenly"  fixed after Apple did an update.

But you mention you had this problem with High Sierra also; I presume that is the same machine that you then updated to Catalina?

My colleague Dave has the problem too on his MacBook, and he suspected initially it was caused by updating to Catalina 10.15.4 because before he did not have this problem. But another user having this problem runs 10.15.3 (just like I do) so I am not sure that has something to do with it.

Hmm, that's a possible useful hint, though I still have no clue at all. Just in an attempt to get more clues, can you tell me what your setting is under Apple menu->System Preferences->Displays->Resolution? Is it set to "Default for display" or "scaled"? Mine is set to "Default for display".

Rob

My display settings are also "Default for display". I had the window filling only part of the screen (menu buttons visible) I then dragged the bottom of the screen downwards as far as I could go which is the top of the dock. Menu buttons still visible. I then selected the green button top left to nmake the display full screen and I still have the menus buttons visible.

I then quite the application. I then opened it again. The screen tries to display full screen but isn't but it is truncated with the bottom of the screen off the bottom of the screen. I can just see the top of the menu buttons but the top of the screen is not at the top of the screen. However when I select full screen then the display goes full screen with buttons visible.

I now don't appear to be able to break it.

Hope this makes sense!

Dave

Yes, that's right.

Mine is set to "Default for display".

Mine too. Tried the scaling also, made no difference.

I attach 3 screenhots showing the minimizing process and its result. But don't spend too much brain and time on this issue, I run EV on a Windows notebook as well. And on iPad mini it works anyway – which is the most im

portant thing.

Cheers Jord

Hi Jordi, thx for the screenshots, it really helps getting ideas where to look. The middle screenshot looks like a scissorarea area is set (buttons are only half visible, a typical effect of a scissor screenspace).

Your macbook pro is retina also by look of the screenshots. On a mac with retina a opengl “drawing area” the size is in pixels , and is twice as high as the “points” a mac usually uses as measurement. Just talking out loud, let me give it some more thoughts....

A little update on this issue : When testing the dmg for the latest version 4.0.725 I had the missing menu bar also. So I tried to make it a reproducable case so it can be debugged, but on subsequent restarts of EV4 the bottom menubar keeps appearing perfectly fine. This turns out the be a little devil, sorry it takes so long to make any progress on it 🙁

Glad to say: Indeed prob is solved in 4.0.725
God only knows why. And if HE doesn`t, Rob will know.
Let us now praise one of them. Better both.

You may shoot me, I have no clue what fixed it. Maybe an MacOS update? It has happened more in the past we tried to fix a bug for weeks that suddenly didn't appear anymore after a MacOS update.....

You may shoot me too, I praised too early. At a second start (and all attempts that followed) the menu bar was gone again. It appears though, when I minimize the map to a third or quarter of the screen. During the process of maximizing again (via diagonal double arrow lower right corner) the menu buttons become "eaten" from bottom to top, as to be seen in one of my pics.
So I agree that it isn't the Lord's work but the devil's ?

Cheers Jordi

version 4.0.789 still has this issue. Resizing to any format does not show the menu items.

As for my part the prob is solved since a couple of weeks. Don't remember wether it was .784 or .789 which brought back the menu to my macbook. Also, I switched to Catalina 10.15.6 in the meantime. Cristian, You may try that too.
Fingers crossed:

Jordi

I use an iMac, 27" with Catalina 10.15.6.
I deleted EasyVFR (dragged the app to trash) restarted and reinstalled EasyVFR. On opening is just gave me the same screen. Quit the program, deleted it, incl. all files in the library, reinstalled EasyVFR. Now it is fine.
