Weather info too prominent

I flew with EVFR4 build 607 this weekend on my Samsung Tab S2. It behaved quite nicely, including good traffic alerts from PilotAware. Alerts from EV4 enabled, alerts from PilotAware disabled. Got several 1- and 2-mile Mode-C/S circles with actual traffic near me.

One issue was that the clouds on the display were far too prominent and far too many. It covered a lot of useful information on the map. I ended up disabling weather on map.

Another phenomenum was that when the map moves and some of the map has to be redrawn, it takes quite a long time. Much longer than EV3.

Other than that, I think we're heading towards a releasable product. Well done!

Even after playing with scaling cloud symbols, I really do think these are way too prominent on the display. Here's today:

cloud density

Thanks Rob. I agree that it is a bit overkill/ confusing to see those clouds shoulder to shoulder. I have reported your feedback to the team. Cheers, Tim

Agree - the clouds depiction is so distracting it's pretty much unusable on the moving map in it's current form, reducing the cloud icon size just makes more of them!!!

We're going to try how it looks when we render them much more fainted, maybe that improves things. If so, I'll put a screenshot here for comments in a few hours.

Icons made a bit smaller, and more "fainted"

Compared to the current implementation :

What do you think?

Definitely an improvement.Perhaps if the rendering engine allows, you can add a transparency setting so users can set the intensity to their liking?

As an alternative, would it be possible to render important information such as airport info, airspace labels etc on top of the cloud symbols?

Did you revert back to previous cloud rendering? The latest build shows the clouds in full force again.

Yep, too many people complained (including myself ;-)) the SigWX was difficult to notice. So we started with the mappresets idea, where we now have a dedicated Nav Map, a WX map and a NOTAM map, so the Nav map no longers needs to share its interest with NOTAMS or WX, so WX and NOTAMS can be rendered better visible again.

It's better but why do we need so many small ones - the transparency is great - the size is great - it there was the same number as the big ones in the old version it'd be about right.

Its because we had some complains in EV3 that cloudbase information on the map is not easy to determine when zoomed-in. When zoomed-out the "overview"  is said to be ok, but when zoomed in the spacing between the cloud symbols is too big to notice the cloudbase information. This is what we try to solve in EV4.  I'm now playing with some more spacing between the cloudsymbols, standby....

During on of our beer&pizza sessions we started thinking about "map presets". There is so many information on the map now, maybe its just too much to do it all on one map. Maybe an idea is to have a few map presets, for example a "Weather preset"  could show the map with Weather but no NOTAMS or terrain, a "Terrain preset"  could show the map using terrain but no weather or NOTAMS etc.
