What's new with today's update?

Today's beta update is all about audio! We took the parts from EasyVFR 3.97 that were working good and made some improvements to them. We have tested it in many use cases and regions, but of course, there are plenty of things we can still improve on. So more iterations are expected based on your input. If you find any issues or have a suggestion, feel free to write them in the comments below.

NEW - Audio (Voice and Sound) Airspace Notifications

EasyVFR 4 can now give audio notifications about airspaces 2 minutes ahead and when you entered them. The audio notification is linked to the Airspace Warning Popup and the yellow Airspace Outline on the map and in the VPV. The audio notification will be played only once every two minutes for the same airspace.

As with all airspace warnings in EasyVFR 4, the audio notifications for airspaces come in two styles: Informational and Alerts.

Informational airspace notification

  • Example 1: "Bliem - Advisory Information. Entering Squawk area. Squawk 4676 in two minutes. Listen to Langen Information on 131.330"
  • Example 2: "Advisory Information. Entering airspace in two minutes. Contact Scottish Information on 119.875"

Alert airspace notification

  • Example 3: "WieuwWieuw - Warning. Entering Class Charlie airspace in two minutes. Contact Bremen Information on 125.100"
  • Example 4: "Warning. Entering Class Delta airspace in two minutes. Contact Prestwick Approach on 129.450"

Entered airspace notification
When entering airspace, EasyVFR 4 will inform you with a Vocal notification.

  • Example 5: "Advisory information. Entered class Charlie airspace. Contact Bremen Information on 125.100"

Bluetooth headset
The audio notifications are natively integrated into the operating systems audio output, similar to when you play video or music. Meaning that when you have a speaker or headset connected via Bluetooth to your EasyVFR 4 device, it will just work.

Tip: Some older Bluetooth versions need an extra two seconds to waking-up when a new sound plays. In those cases, you can delay the audio by enabling [Bluetooth Audio wake-up delay] via:
EasyVFR 4 menu -> Alarms and Warnings -> Voice Settings.

Voice Settings

You can adjust for which airspace warning style you receive voice notifications.
EasyVFR 4 menu -> Alarms and Warnings -> Voice Settings.

Airspace Settings
You can also adjust the warning styles per airspace class and type.
EasyVFR 4 menu -> Moving Map -> Airspace Settings.

Airspace Settings 1

NEW - Auto-suppress airspace warnings close to departure and arrival

When you are departing or arriving at your planned airfield you don't want to get distracted by your navigational device, bleeping and screaming for attention to warning you for airspaces nearby. With this new version, by default, EasyVFR 4 will suppress warnings when you are within 5 nautical miles of your planned departure or arrival airfield.

You can adjust the settings via EasyVFR 4 menu -> Alarms and Warnings -> Auto-suppress.

  • FIXED: When an airspace warning was snoozed then the next airspace warning in the queue was not shown if its alert level was less then the level of the airspace snoozed.

Re audio notifications, nothing when following a route, and it would be nice, if like Pilot Aware, relative altitude is added to the report of conflicting aircraft.
