Dear aviators,

This update addresses several rare and minor crash causes. All fixes combined have led, at least in our testing environments and on many test flights, to a noticeable improvement of overall stability.

New is that logbook flight tracks and breadcrumbs can now be exported in the GPX format.

If you have any feedback feel free to write them below or send us an email. We are specifically interested in any crash you find. When you do please send us an email so we can learn how to reproduce it and fix it for you.

We will get back to you soon with more updates on the user interface.

Cheers,
Team EasyVFR 4

Release notes

  • NEW: Logbook flight tracks and breadcrumbs can now be exported to GPX format also.
  • IMPROVED: When EV4 is moved to the background it will release cache memory so the operating system keeps EV4 alive longer. Hopefully, this has a noticeable impact on specifically iPad mini 4 systems.
  • IMPROVED: Dynon Flightplan Sending: If the Ident of a VRP is longer than the SkyView can display (8 characters) then when this Ident starts with the airport ICAO, then EV4 will use the most 8 right characters as Ident to show on the SkyView. This improves usability on airports with VRPs that differentiate only on the last 1 or two characters used.
  • IMPROVED: When entering credentials a Reset Password button is now available.
  • FIXED: Rare occurrences of EV4 freezing on iOS
  • FIXED: Some crashing causes on Android
  • FIXED: Density altitude is back on QuickInfo->Airfield Info and tripkit PDF.
  • FIXED: The Magnetic Track value on a route bubble used the plane's position to calculate magnetic variation, while it should have been the starting point of the leg.
  • FIXED: Long names with hyphens were rendered on the map with one hyphen missing to avoid ugly long names taking up a lot of widths. We found a better solution to do the word wrapping.
  • FIXED: Tripkit didn't show trailing zero's for distance if the distance was a whole number (11.0 was displayed as 11. instead of 11.0)
  • FIXED: When the main menu was activated, then a submenu was activated and then the main menu was activated again and this was repeated 17 times then the submenu would not appear anymore.
  • FIXED: Restoring logbook from the cloud could fail due to timeout.
  • FIXED: When the user scrolled the account-creation page during app setup it was no longer possible to enter the user's credentials
  • FIXED: When accepting a GPX route on Android, this route was excepted, but EV would crash after 1-2 minutes.
  • FIXED: When in Plan(e)station mode EV4 would not set the forced camera altitude at startup.
  • FIXED: EasyVFR 4 menu -> System -> Tracklogs now works for EasyVFR Essentials also.
  • FIXED: Deleting daily breadcrumb files using EasyVFR 4 menu -> System -> Tracklogs did not delete the selected breadcrumb file.

Hi Tim,

I have not encountered crashes for a long time with both Lenovo tabs, M10 and P11, neither Samsung A72 nor Huawei P20 Lite.

Only flaw appeared last Saturday, I tried to send Tripkit by email but it was only downloaded, not sent to that particular address.

Cheers,

Esa

Hi,

I am new to EasyVFR and to the community. However as of now i am impressed of both.

I just realized that both of my devices (Nokia 8, and Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3) have the Version 4.0.987 installed even though i did not opt in for beta testing.

I came to this thread here because i have crashes on my Samsung Galaxy Tab (whithout any error message), App just closes down. I cannot really say what causes the problem but it feels like this happens if the app has "a lot to do". Creating TripKit or reloading the Vertical Profile.

I am also experiencing that the reloading of the map and the VP happens in a lot of situations and for that frequency is kind of slow. And in this situations where there is a lot going on at once i sometimes get these crashes on the Tab. (3 times in 3hours of evaluating the app yesterday).

I am hoping to learn more about how i can prevent this

Hi Christian,

Thx for reporting this, its greatly appreciated. Can you tell me which countries you have installed? You mention "reloading of the map"; would it be possible to make a small video about it maybe and send a download link to team@easyvfr4.aero?

Kind regards,

Rob

Hi Rob, sorry for the late response. After posting here i did some further investigations and i found out that users of my tablet had similar problems with rather resource hungry apps. I got the hint that other apps might also be the problem that cause heavy background load.

Allthough i never had that issue with the other big android EFB app i decided to uninstall allmost all other apps. Then i tested easyVFR4 in the simulator and had 0 crashes. Yesterday i did my first real flight with it and i had 1 app crash in 3 hours flight time which was not a real problem since everything comes back on restart pretty fast in the same state that it was before the crash.

I will try to make a video to show what i mean by reloading. Probably it is better described as the "ongoing rendering process". When you move and zoom on the map things get unloaded and others get loaded which works pretty well when using in in flight mode. When planning or when zooming in flight that is kind of cheesy and slow on both of my devices compared to other map apps and the crashes i experienced all happened during a panning, zooming, moving action like that.
