Sometimes it is nice to define a waypoint by using PBD instead of coordinates.  For example:

EDFE/084/4

On Take off this will bring me to the end of the upwind leg before making a turn.  Or during approach this could be my final intercept point.

Technically no rocket science, but as always, how to implement it UI wise? Maybe have the search window recognize two / symbols and then interpret the entered string as PBD (Point/Bearing/Distance) ....?

In the case of multiple samename points, it seems best to first highlight the name of choice in the search list.  One little icon could be dedicated to represent the PBD initialization.  (All that is left is BD)

a new user waypoint could automatically be created and saved.

i would suggest to expand the search functionality with a P/B/D notation possibility... and then as leif suggests, create a user waypoint out of it before being able e.g. to go direct...

also, ideally the runway thresholds could be referenced as well as objects, e.g. LSZH14/317/10 would create an overlay to the ILS...

P/B/D waypoint defining is implemented in 4.0.859. RunwayID's are not yet supported, we need room for a runways tab in the Search window first.
