Hi all,
Today's beta release is the start of a new chapter for EasyVFR 4. In the coming weeks and months, we will focus on both the user interface and the core features of EasyVFR. Building up towards thrilling news we will bring during spring. Staring now with the new Status Card.
Status Card
Helping you as a pilot to have peace of mind is one of the most important jobs EasyVFR has. To use an app as your primary aid you want to be sure that data and system-wise all boxes are checked and the lights are green. And that when something needs your attention you are notified about it.
Previously this information was scattered around several menus, and Custom Info Fields. Now with the new Status Card, you will find all those boxes to check, in one single place.
Status Dot
The Status Dot is permanently shown over the map, and has three statuses:
- Green Checkmark: all ok.
- Orange Circle: within margins, but something can be done.
- Red Exclamation mark: alert, action required.
With a tap on the Status Dot, you open the Status Card. Listing all the components that influenced the Status Dot. Per component, the status is shown with a status icon. Where possible the general setting or readout value is listed as well.
Settings
Furthermore, the status card is the new entry to the settings per component. So you can quickly take action without the need to browse to other menus.
User Interface and Experience
The structuring and styling of the Status Card are fastly different than the other menus and tools within EasyVFR 4. More modern, friendly, recognizable, and accessible.
With every upcoming update, another core feature or workflow will get some love and be lifted to the new design philosophy.
Enjoy exploring the new Status Card. We look forward to hearing your first impression and are happy to answer any questions you have in the comments below.
Cheers,
Team EasyVFR 4

Release notes
- NEW: Introducing the new Status Card.
- IMPROVED: Auto-adjust of airspace hide filter. When the difference between current altitude and active Airspace Hide Filter becomes 1000ft or less, then EV4 will automatically adjust this AirspaceHide filter in steps of 1000ft to create a difference of more then 1000ft again.
- IMPROVED: Loading of large routes is now faster and more stable.
- CHANGED: To clean up the EasyVFR 4 menu. Every setting that is now accessible via the Status Card is removed from the EasyVFR 4 Menu: Download of individual data types; GPS Settings; Traffic (Electronic Conspicuity) Settings.
- CHANGED: The graphics and UI design system for both the app source code as in the development workflow has been reworked.
- FIXED: Autowind, METARs and TAFs are now working again.
- FIXED: Logbook Creation could sometimes create logbook entries with departure time set to the time the device was turned back on after the last flight instead of the actual landing time.

Love the new Status Card and Dot! Excellent idea to save hunting all over for the correct menu… ??????
The good news: I do love the concept, it is intuitive and clean.
Other good news: It works on my Samsing S10e which was inadvertently updated to Android 12.
The bad news: I flew today and this version kept stopping very often on my Samsung Tab S2 which has been running stable for years on previous versions. Position and traffic comes from a Stratux. I had to revert to EV3 for this flight. Feel free to get in touch if you want me to check anything specific.
Did a few more tests at home. No Stratux, regular Wifi connection. Crash is easy to reproduce and consistently occurs 3:30 minutes after starting EV4.
Statuscard looks great and intuitive to use.
Same experience as Rob on samsung tab s2: quits after few minutes - quits when exiting menus (statuscard, items in easyvfr4menu, ...) - weather not showing in vert. profile.
Seems to work ok on Xiaomi redmi 9 pro. But on both devices a message "you are not allowed to maintain data for this airfield" shows when activating an approachplate in the info-menu of an airfield - the 'Ok' leads to Marmelade error 20211008162843q and exit evfr4.
Brilliant. Brings together things nicely. It seems to work OK on my GalaxyS20 although there is quite a lot of wasted screen space now both top and bottom. It looks like there is a black and a grey bar at the top and a black bar at the bottom
I'm very sorry you are suffering these crashes. They only affect a few specific makes and models of device, but those models crash every 3 min 30 secs. Rob has identified the issue and will be releasing a new Beta version on Friday with this (and another) bug fixed.
Stu, I noticed today that after tapping the airspace tab on the Info wheel the graphic to the left hand side is shown in full but as the airspace data is added the graphic shrinks in height and is unusable. Maybe already picked up by Rob.
Bob
955 seems to have fixed this
Great
Bob
Thanks for confirming, Bob!
955 has tidied up several little niggles that 954 introduced!
