Last week we introduced the new Status Dot and Status Card. We received positive and useful feedback from you all. Thank you! ?
This week we worked hard to address as many bugs and suggestions as possible. Today's update should be more stable on the Android devices that run an older Android version. The positioning behavior of the Status Card is tweaked, and the Status Dot is resized and got a bit of shade.
As promised, with every update some parts of the UI will be lifted to our new UI design philosophy and styling. Today the North-Up/Track-Up button and Vertical Profile button are refreshed.
Another useful improvement is in the Relative Terrain Colouring when flying in mountainous terrain. Now terrain between 0 and 700 ft below your current altitude is colored in gradient color from red to yellow with a bit of transparency. This way terrain that is above you stands out more with a dark solid red and are valleys easier to recognise.

- IMPROVED: Button to toggle Vertical Profile on/off (top right corner).
- IMPROVED: Button and icons to toggle TrackUp/NorthUp/PlanePos center (top left corner).
- IMPROVED: Relative Terrain Colouring now uses a mixture of Red/Yellow to better render terrain that is still below the current altitude so valleys are better detectable.
- IMPROVED: When traffic depiction uses an altitude range instead of a single value (in case the pressure altitude source is unreliable for example) the EV4 now uses a <> symbol between the lowest and highest possible value to indicate its a range.
- FIXED: In landscape, the Route Tools menu did not scroll anymore.
- FIXED: WX Timelabels in the Route Planning menu, at the WX tab gave weird values.

- FIXED: Automatically setting and resetting back to the previous setting of the Airspace Hide upper altitude when in flight mode and climbing/Descending.
- FIXED: Vertical Profile could render wind barbs twice with a slight offset at the destination location, making it look as if the wind at the destination was much stronger than previously on that route.

- After downloading the DMG file, open it and drag the EasyVFR 4 icon into the Applications folder. EasyVFR 4 is now available via Launchpad.
- When you get the message "EasyVFR4.app can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the App Store" choose [Open in Finder] from that popup, then right-click on EasyVFR4.app and choose open. Now the same popup will appear, now with a [Open] button.
- From there on you can launch EasyVFR 4 from the launchpad without this warning.
- With every update, you need to redo step 2.
- IMPORTANT:
During 1 hour of groundtesting the improved and fixed items and some flightplanning, the Samsung tab2 remained stable thoughout. No hickups at all. So, thanks for the quick update.
I do like the simplicity and clarity of the new buttons.

Just a bit on this one. I don't feel this is an improvement. It takes up extremely valuable screen space for a setting that is probably set on first installation and never changed again. We all tend to have our own preference for north or track up and never use the other one. So why take up screen space with it?
In fact it's worse than just taking up screen space. Now it's very easy to accidentally change a setting that you'd probably never want to change after first installation.
This improvement gets a down vote from me.
Also let me suggest that the VP button should be VPV. VP in English is very commonly used for Vice President. It's so common for that, that my keyboard automatically capitalised it!

Thanks for sharing.
The precious compass/north-up/track-up button styling was by many users not understood and even overlooked although it has been there for ages. This compass icon styling update is more about the graphics, to let it stand out better and use modern UI icons, rather than about the behavior and positioning.
Improving the behavior and repositioning of both the compass button and Vertical Profile button is already taken care of in our new design prototypes. There the VP abbreviation is not used.
I can't share the working prototype here on the forum yet. Since it also contains elements and new features that are not decided on yet. But I will send you a message with more details.

As regards North-Up/Track Up, although I am firmly a North Up" flyer (and likewise for car driving), I do very occasionally take a look at a Track Up view. But for anyone flying track up it is undoubtedly vital to have a clear "North Pointer" somewhere on the screen. And personally I would also say it's essential to have a clear indication whether the screen is set North Up or Track Up. So to me, given the need to show which mode you are in, and in Track Up to have a clear indication of where North is, combining the "north-pointer" and the "toggle" function in one icon SAVES screen space. The only potential issue is that it might be too easy to accidentally change modes (though I have never had that happen to me.) That could be solved by requiring a longer tap to trigger a mode change.
I use both the pointer and the VP icons fairly regularly.....and also it took me a few years (and someone on here pointing it out) for me to realise that tapping the North pointer did anything.
Now I know, tapping the pointer to return to screen centre is handy and changing mode is useful to help orientate yourself around known airspace shapes. (I'm also a north up person but I'm trying to teach myself to be a track-up person when using moving maps because that is kind'a the point of them - we can free ourselves of the shackles of text being printed in a particular way)

I agree with Colm. These buttons (all 3) are too big and dominant.
One Difference in the Track button is the little letter „T“ or „N“. This makes it necessary to look carefully. I feel it’s not helpful if I have to look for small things in a big button. Better seems a color change as it was before. A (Magenta) track up makes a magenta north arrow that rotates with the picture. I find this logical and intuitive.
And whatever symbol you choose, please make it a bit translucent.
Flew three flights today, total of 3+ hours. Glad to report that EV4 worked flawlessly on my Samsung Tab S2. No stopping, no crashes, smooth as silk. Well done!
Still would like to request a change in how the traffic circuits are drawn. It would be great to have these switched off when an approach chart is active for that field. An example is EHHV where the charts are unusable due to the clutter of the circuits.
