Dear aviators,

With this week's beta, we proudly introduce a new Route Card, and a new method to quickly share routes with any EasyVFR 4 user and device. For Dynon users on iOS, we also have a handy addition.

Route Card

The Route Totals Bubble introduced in February is now tappable. When tapped, the new Route Card is opened. The Route Card offers a super clean overview of the route waypoints and the legs in between. Offering the same content as the Leg Labels: Course, Duration, Distance and Altitude; ( 285mt 00:17h:m 8nm 2600ft).

When in Flying Mode, the Route Card will scroll your current leg into view and highlight the Leg Label of the active leg.

Open Pro Route Options
The goal of the Route Card is to focus on what is relevant for anyone who is flying, leaving anything out that can be distracting, or is less often used. For quick access to all the route options tap the blue tappable-text 'Open Pro Route Options' in the footer of the Route Card.

Stop Route
To quickly start over, you can now tap the red tappable-text 'Stop Route' in the header of the Route Card.

Cancel Changes - Confirm Changes
The previous Cancel Changes and Confirm Changes buttons are replaced by tappable-text and moved to the Route Totals bubble and Route Card. Making it more logical to new users what the expected behavior is: Action is required to confirm a draft (yellow) route to have it activated (magenta).

The red Cancel Changes and green Confirm Changes are also embedded in the Route Totals Bubble.

View waypoint on the map
The icon of each waypoint listed in the Route Card is tappable. When taped on the moving map will be centered on that waypoint.

Close Route Card
Every new card has the same closing behavior. To close a card, tap outside the card on the moving map. Or tap in the header on the title (or icon when any). This works for the Route Card as for the previously added Status Card.

Share Route Token

Ever wanted to share your route with a fellow EasyVFR 4 user? Now it's done in seconds! To share a route:

  1. Create a route and Confirm Changes,
  2. open the Route Card,
  3. tap on the blue text 'Share Route', and confirm.
  4. Your route will be uploaded to our servers and get a special four letters token with an exclamation mark as a prefix, like "!OSIV".
  5. Any EasyVFR 4 user can then enter this token "!OSIV" into the search window. The route will be downloaded in seconds and ready to use.

The route token will expire after 72 hours. Changes made on a route that was previously shared will remain locally. To share this new or changed, simply create a new Route Token by tapping 'Share Route'.

Prepare Dynon USB stick on iOS

We are constantly improving how you can update the avionics data on your Dynon USB stick. Now it is possible to do this on your iPhone and iPad. This process also works on Apple Silicon macs. To do this you need only need two things.

  1.  An adapter to connect the USB stick to your iPhone; Apple calls this adapter "apple lightning to USB 3 camera adapter",
  2. and a valid Frequent Flyer Membership license.

The process is identical to the export procedure on the desktop.

  1. Free storage and fully charged - Make sure your iPhone or iPad has enough free storage (up to 5GB is needed). The whole process can take the first time multiple hours. Make sure to start it fully charged when the adapter does not have an extra charging input.
  2. Insert he lightning/USB-C to USB-A adapter with your Dynon USB stick inserted into your iOS device.
  3. Go to EasyVFR 4 menu -> Downloads menu -> Dynon SkyView.
  4. Serial number - When not registered, enter the serial number of your master SkyView panel.
  5. Download - First EasyVFR 4 needs to have all the data stored locally. Tap the [Download] button in the footer and leave EasyVFR in the foreground until the download is finished.
  6. Select USB
    1. Tap the [Select USB Stick] button. A list of drivers and folders will be shown in a model.
    2. Select your Dynon USB stick. Do not tap on any folder within the root of the stick, only the USB stick itself needs to be selected.
    3. Tap in de header of the modal on Done.
  7. Copy - Now back in EasyVFR 4 in the Dynon SkyView Data Exchange menu tap [Copy], and confirm the pop-up by tapping 'Yes'. The data will now be copied from the local storage towards the USB stick. Leave EasyVFR in the foreground until the copying is finished

Note - There are thousands of files to be copied during the first time your run this process. This will take a few hours. We have tested the expensive Apple adapter compared to a cheaper USB 3 adapter. They perform equally. The only benefit is that the Apple adapter has an extra lightning input so you can charge while copying.

On iPad in landscape the status symbol will show next to an open route window.

When tapping the status symbol, the two windows overlap like this.

image

you can even open the new route summary on top, and then this happens:
