Hello everybody.

On the vector map there is some information like some remarkable mountain peak but not mountain pass.

It would be great if they could be seen, as they are key points for navigating in the mountains.
With the new raster map, we can see them but it's not as simpler.

Do you think it's something you can add ?

Good evening.

Hi Arnoud,

Thank you for your post. Are you looking for a better way to visualize the passes? In that case, Valley Terrain when planning and Relative Terrain when flying are useful tools. Please refer to this article in our knowledge base: Terrain ⛰️

Is that helpful?

Cheers, Tim

Hello Tim,

Thanks. Not exactly because I can visualize the passes quite well (and even better now with the terrain) but it would be nice to add a symbol or something to tell us the height of the passes.

Currently, it's a little black dot + altitude + name for remarkable summits, but perhaps you could add a little v (for example) + altitude + name for passes. That way, pilots will know very quickly if the pass is crossable or if they need to maneuver before passing it. And also will be easier to name it at the radio for a better knowledge of the situation for everybody
Here's an example.

Thank you and good day

Hi Arnoud,

Ah, understood. Thanks for clarifying. We have improved our data structure to add all kinds of features, but we aim to include only reliable sources. I’ve found some sources for passes, but they contain way too many. While exploring, some seem useful, but most are just small saddles in a large mountain ridge or have a much safer alternative nearby. I believe these passes need to be handpicked to be truly useful for VFR navigation.

Do you happen to know an official aviation source for these?

Cheers,
Tim

Hello Tim,
I will ask around me.
Maybe if you have a list in excel or something we also can clean it and keep only the relevant one (maybe with the help of the FFA/FFPLUM/FFV).
Thank you for checking.
Good day
