I am planning a route through mountains.  My valley reference  is set to 2500 ft.  I assume this value sets the earliest elevation color (yellow).  Below 2500 ft the regular map is shown.  What is the meaning of the different yellows and reds? And why is there not a Single spot elevation in the area?

I just noticed that even my assumption is wrong.  Valley reference is still unchanged at 2500 and I have this picture at another location.

Yes I see we now have just a few occasional token Spot elevations shown in .671. Not enough to give one much confidence in mountainous terrain though!

Valley Terrain reference altitude acts the same as if you are flying at that altitude. So terrain with a clearance of less then 1000ft will be coloured yellow, terrain with a clearance less then 500ft will be red.

So with Valley terrain reference altitude at 2500ft, terrain elevation of 1500-2000ft will be coloured yellow, terrain higher then 2000ft will be red.

Spot elevations are shown only when fairly zoomed in. I can't comment on the density or number of spot elevations since I don't have an opinion. We only received already a few complains that there are too many. So I fear this is again a subject where each "captain" has its own opinion 😉

Thank you for the clarification.  However I see two shades of yellow and at least 4 of red.    Maybe you want to include a translation table somewhere?

yellow terrain is  Reference - 1000 to - 750 ft

dark yellow    - 750 to - 500 ft

red terrain     - 500  to  ?

 grey               + ?

No Rob,  after checking around, even your color explanation falls through.

I think,  yellow is anything below my reference and red anything above.  The question remains how the shading is defined.

This UL field is displayed in yellow terrain, being 325 Ft below my reference.

@leifurweb-de

Hmm, Thats how it initially was developed, but later we decided it should be the same as when using relative terrain in flying mode at that altitude. I will check asap.
