I've been using EasyVFR since getting my PPL in 2023. I've always had the impression that EasyVFR was a bit slow. But without any reference to compare to, I attributed that to the complexity of aviation software. Recently I've had the chance to see SkyDemon and it's smooth as silk, perhaps even faster than Google Maps. Likewise, the tutorials for EasyVFR on YouTube make it look like it was made to run very smooth indeed. Therefore, I'm wondering whether something is wrong on or with my devices.
To make it specific: I'm using both a OnePlus 8, which is still a pretty fast phone normally, and a Samsung A55. Of the two, the Samsung has the smoother experience. But with both phones, button presses can take anywhere between 1 and 2 seconds to register, in rare cases longer. This leads to some presses also registering different than intended. As a result, using the app in flight is tricky.
The only active country is The Netherlands. I'm using the Safe Skies feature. I have disabled the terrain layer as I believe that helps a bit.
I have not had the chance to see it in action on an iOS product.
So, is this normal or not? If not, are there any tips how I can optimize performance on my device?
Hi,
EasyVFR4 is indeed very "power hungry", and on Android more then on iOS unfortunately. The main reason for this is linked to the multi-platform development environment that makes it possible to share 99% of the code between all supported platforms. We are constantly trying to improve performance, and we hope to make some significant steps.
