The German DFS has finally agreed to offer the airport plates again for free. However, only in PNG format as pictures. This is the link to my airport:

can we get the old pocketfms function back, to add the graphics manually and upload to the community?

Hi Kai, just to let you know we have these new free DFS plates images in our wishlist, and are trying to get permission to automatically include these in EV4. That is our preferred roadmap, not the re-introduction of user-georeferencable EFB content.

Any news about that topic?
An intermediate solution would help to get over the time.

😉 Not really forgotten, but we didn't report the conclusion here - sorry 'bout that! The question is twofold: a) can we get the free DFS plates in EasyVFR and b) can we get user chart additions?

a) We've examined that path, and decided not to start using those freely available plates. The reasons are that the quality / resolution isn't very good, and that the DFS licence doesn't allow for third parties like us to redistribute these. Instead we pay a fee to DFS, and we're allowed access to the high-res source documents.

b) Users that have been with us for a looong time may remember we allowed users to upload charts and make data modifications, way back when. We're talking 15 years ago or more. A handful of them did a really great job on that, but the vast majority wasn't so faithful in maintaining their uploaded stuff. The result was a lot of old, unusable and outdated plates in the software. Then there was also the copyright issue; not rarely were items added to the EFB that should legally not be in there. Not a big problem in the early days, but today we cannot (and will not) afford to have that anymore.

We do however add the occasional home-cooked plate after having had contact with its creator. If you fly from an airfield for which no official plate was ever made, but you or your organization made one themselves they don't mind sharing, then we will gladly add it for you!
