Just got a pixel 6 running Android 12. Previous devices no problems running easyvfr, but now it says I am outside of UK region.

Presumably as it can't get a GPS fix. Easyvfr never requested permissions, but I've given it location permission anyway, still makes no difference.

Any ideas?

Hi Kevin,

This is a known issue with the old free EasyVFR3 basic UK and basic NL versions running on Android 12. These versions do not comply to Android 12 new privacy requirement to specifically ask the user to allow the use of precise location services.

Easiest solution is to switch to EasyVFR4, since two weeks the Android and iOS version in the appstores have a similar functionality as EasyVFR3 basic, and its free to use without any time limitation. We call this "EasyVFR4 Essential", and are currently in the process of releasing it fully.

Apologies for the late reply, I never got a notification this had been answered.

Thank You, I have downloaded EVFR4.

I recently purchased a new smartphone (Samsung Galaxy A13, Android 12). EasyVFR 3 does not work on it - I get the GPS-error. EasyVFR4 will not install since this apparently is a 32-bit device. So...unfortunately I am without EasyVFR now, which I really regret.

From some Googling I found out that the A13 has a 64-bit chipset but, as you say, the 4GB version only has a 32-bit operating system. I know Samsung for a while was selling "budget" version of some of its products that had their performance downgraded in that way but it seems a despicable business practice. But about 6 months ago they stopped that practice so it's very disappointing to see them doing it again. On the Samsung web site they even commend the importance of having a 64-bit chipset on the A13, without admitting that by loading a 32-bit operating system they have destroyed the benefit a 64-bit chipset would achieve.

However, it appears that it is only the 4GB RAM version of the A13 that suffers this problem - if the post that you can read at https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Other-Mobile-Devices/Request-Android-OS-64bit-For-Samsung-A13-ram-4gb/td-p/2276431 is correct, the 6GB version of the A13 DOES have a 64-bit operating system (and therefore would be suitable for EasyVFF4). If you have very recently purchased your A13, you might perhaps be able to negotiate with whoever sold it to you to return it and pay a little extra to upgrade to a 6GB model instead?

Hi Stewart, thanks for the reply. Upgrade is unlikely. My previous phone, which I use without a sim-card as a navigation aid in gliders handles EVFR 4 no problem and it runs EVfr 3 as well. Go figure. So as long as I have Wifi I can work around it.

I'm glad you have a workaround. The reason your old phone still works with EV3 is that it is only a change introduced in Android 12 that stops any versions of EV3 getting access to the GPS position. Almost every Android model sold since about 2-3 years ago is true 64-bit, but there are a very small number of "budget" models from Samsung and minor brands that are not fully 64-bit. The problem is that the manufacturers do not make any effort to make it clear that these devices are not 64-bit.
